Our Privacy Commitment
MindVault is designed with privacy as a core principle. We believe your thoughts, ideas, and personal notes should remain private. That's why:
- All your data is stored locally on your device by default
- We never have access to your notes or personal content
- We don't use third-party analytics or tracking services
- We don't sell, share, or monetize your data in any way
Data We Collect
Data stored on your device:
- Notes, journals, and all content you create
- Folders, tags, and organizational structure
- Attachments (images, audio, documents)
- App preferences and settings
This data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly enable iCloud sync.
Data we may collect:
- Purchase information: Handled by Apple through the App Store. We receive a transaction ID but no payment details.
- Crash reports: If you opt in, anonymized crash data may be collected to help us fix bugs.
iCloud Sync (Optional)
If you choose to enable iCloud sync:
- Your data is encrypted before it leaves your device
- Only you can decrypt your data with your password
- Data is stored in your personal iCloud account
- We cannot access your synced data
Data Encryption
When encryption is enabled:
- Your notes are encrypted using AES-256-GCM encryption
- Encryption keys are derived from your password using PBKDF2
- Keys never leave your device
- We cannot recover your data if you forget your password
Permissions We Request
MindVault may request the following permissions:
- Microphone: To record voice notes. Audio is processed and stored locally on your device only.
- Speech Recognition: To transcribe voice notes to text. Transcription uses Apple's on-device speech recognition when available.
- Face ID/Touch ID: To unlock encrypted notes using biometric authentication. Biometric data never leaves your device.
- Notifications: To send you reminder notifications for notes you've scheduled.
- Calendar: To add note-related events to your calendar (optional feature).
All permissions are requested only when you use the relevant feature, never on app launch.
Third-Party Services
MindVault uses minimal third-party services:
- Apple App Store: For app distribution and purchases
- Apple iCloud: For optional encrypted sync (if enabled)
- Apple Speech Recognition: For voice note transcription (on-device when available)
We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
Data Retention
Your data remains on your device until you delete it. If you delete the app:
- All local data is permanently deleted
- iCloud data remains in your iCloud account until you delete it
Your Rights
You have complete control over your data:
- Access: All your data is accessible within the app
- Export: Premium users can export all data as Markdown, JSON, or PDF
- Delete: You can delete any note or all data at any time
- Portability: Your data is stored in standard formats
GDPR Compliance
For users in the European Union:
- We collect minimal data necessary for app functionality
- You have the right to access, correct, and delete your data
- Data processing is based on legitimate interest and consent
CCPA Compliance
For California residents:
- We do not sell personal information
- We do not share personal information for targeted advertising
- You have the right to know what data we collect and request deletion
Children's Privacy
MindVault is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes through the app or by email.
